I work as flexibly as I can, however to avoid possible confusion for both myself and your practice I have laid out my following terms of business. These have been drawn up as a response to problems that have arisen in other practices and have been suggested by locums throughout the UK.

1. Once bookings have been confirmed then it is final. I will keep to the agreed dates unless family emergencies arise - I will then give your practice as much notice as possible. Cancellations of bookings may incur a cancellation charge.

  • Bookings cancelled within 1 month of the locum will incur a penalty of 50% of the agreed fees
  • Booking cancelled within 2 weeks of the locum will incur a penalty of 100% of the agreed fees
2. I will ensure that I am on a performers list, my GMC registration and medical indemnity will be up to date.

3. A session will be of 3 and a half hours duration. This will consist of a 3 hour surgery with a maximum of 18 consultations each booked in every 10 minutes. The remaining 30 minutes will be allocated for admin work from work generated by myself during the surgery. A 2.5 hour surgery will consist of a maximum of 15 patients.

A session does not include a home visit (which will incur an additional fee) or general admin work for the practice (eg the signing of repeat scripts, telephone consultations, hospital letters or checking of blood results), if the practice wish me to do this then it will be considered as additional work and will be charged at an hourly rate.

This is the maximum which can be accepted during a session, I am flexible and may change my work pattern to suit your practice and alter my fees accordingly.

4. I am fully up to date with the new GMS contract and understand the importance of up to date patient information, I will ensure, as far as possible within time constraints, that the practice will not loose out in terms of QOF payments during my consultations.

5. I will not be expected to do non-GMS work. Any work which is deemed as "private" which the practice expects me to do will be charged 25% of the expected fee.

6. I do not carry medication with me during my work, however I will carry all necessary equipment needed to perform my job, this includes automated BP monitor, stethoscope, otoscope, opthalmoscope and pulse oximetry.

7. My preferred method of payment is by cheque, however I am willing to accept cash or payment by electronic BACS transfer. A late payment charge of 10% will be charged for invoices not paid within 1 month of the invoice date.


8. Once bookings have been made, it is assumed that you have read the Terms and Conditions and agree to them.
